THE SNOW IS HERE!

January 17th, 2012

Did you wake up to a snow storm and now your furnace isn’t working, and you do not know what to do? If you have a 90% efficiency furnace and above, you may have snow blocking the pipes that allow for an intake and outtake of air. These pipes are typically white PVC, and you will be able to find them on the side of your house.
If you are not sure if you have a 90% efficiency furnace and above, check to see if you have those pipes. If you do, then you have a 90% and above efficiency furnace. If there is snow blocking these pipes, the furnace will not work. Try cleaning out your pipes and see if your furnace starts to work again.
Be careful when shoveling or snow blowing all that snow, that you do not mistakenly block those pipes, and make sure you keep your pipes clear to avoid any problems now or in the future.

If a problem still exists after clearing these pipes contact our service department at 253-872-5665.

Happy New Year! With the New Year meet the new residential furnace of the future

January 6th, 2012

In general, residential furnaces over the past 10 years have become smaller and more efficient. Manufacturers now offer a wider variety of higher efficiency designs to meet their customers’ needs, and with these changes have come major changes to how furnaces are installed. These changes typically involve increases in system static pressure, a wider use of flexible ductwork, and increased use of technologies intended to promote or maintain indoor air quality.
One innovation that impacts installation practices is increased availability of models that use an electronically commutated motor(ECM) rather than the traditional permanent split capacitor (PSC) motor. Over the last few years, furnace change outs were made cost effective with the energy tax credits that were made available on qualifying new furnaces with an ECM motor. ECM motors can be programmed by the manufacturer to run at very low speeds for the manual fan-on mode. Users who want or need to run the circulating fan continuously will see significant energy savings. A direct benefit of EC’s is a reduction in electrical energy use, thus reducing the part of a consumer’s electric bill associated with operating the furnace fan.
As homeowners become aware of the energy savings, facing repairs that involves replacing the existing motor are becoming less and less cost effective. Replacement of a new furnace will save you in the long run, energy and increased Indoor air quality. If you would like to meet with our in home comfort specialist, call today at 253-872-5665! ‘Must-Do’s on a Furnace Maintenance-Continued

December 27th, 2011

With today’s advanced technology and high-efficiency furnaces, your heating and cooling equipment require more precise procedures to ensure optimum performance and a trouble-free life. Here are a few items that must be done to properly clean and tune new natural gas or LP furnaces.

7. Perform a combustion analysis.

8. Read and record the temperature in the supply and return plenums.
The supply air plenum temperature on condensing and induced-draft furnaces should be 60 degrees warmer than the return air temperature.

9. Check and adjust the gas pressure.

10. Check for gas leaks.

11. Look for proper support of the vent pipe. Check pipe support hangers.

12. Set the heat-off delay. For best reliability and maximum efficiency, set the heat-off delay to the longest time available (typically 180 seconds).

Following these steps will help ensure a superior furnace tune-up that will help keep you safe and warm all winter! When choosing a company to tune-up your furnace, knowledge of your system is the key. We maintain and service all makes or models and we will provide a quality of service you can trust and count on! With today’s advanced technology and high-efficiency furnaces, your heating and cooling equipment require more precise procedures to ensure optimum performance and a trouble-free life. Here are a few items that must be done to properly clean and tune new natural gas or LP furnaces.

1. Check the igniter by using an ohmmeter.
The igniter needs to be tested when the igniter is cold and furnace is not firing.

2. Check the flame sensor.(if present)
This can be tested with a multi-meter.

3. Pull and clean the burners.
Most common failures associated with burners are contamination and misalignment.
4. Inspect the heat exchanger for excessive rust, cracks, or holes.
Visual inspection is always the best, but requires training and practice.

5. On condensing 90%+ furnaces, blow out the condensate line.
Remove or blow out the P-trap and pressure tubes to remove debris. Condensate lines have become the source of a common issue for 90%+ furnaces: long run times in very cold weather can cause the pressure switch to lock out. Then, by the time the service technician gets to the house, the water has drained out and everything is working again. This is one of the little items that can cause homeowners to become frustrated when they pay for a cleaning and problems like this occur.

6. Check the system static pressure.

These are a few ‘Must-Do’s on a furnace maintenance. We maintain and service any make or model and will provide a quality of service you can trust and count on! To schedule an appointment with on of our factory & union trained service technicians call (800) 291-5191.

$800.00 Rebate Available from PSE!!!

December 5th, 2011

Utility companies in the Pacific Northwest are using cash incentives to encourage homeowners with aging, inefficient baseboard and wall-mounted heaters to replace them with ductless heating and cooling systems.

Ductless systems can reduce homeowner heating bills by 25 to 50 percent. Ductless heat pumps are not well-known in the residential home heating market, but have been widely used in Asia and Europe since the 1970’s and in U.S. commercial buildings since the 1980’s. The energy alliance launched a pilot project in 2008 to train electrical contractors on how to install them. Since then nearly 12,000 units have been installed in the Northwest, saving enough electricity to power 3,600 homes. Emerald Aire is a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer ensuring that our technicians are well trained in servicing and installation of Mitsubishi HVAC equipment. .

Right now PSE is offering an $800.00 rebate on the installation of a ductless heat pump system. The time is now to save money and energy!
